NGI Forum 2021 is a flagship event under the Next Generation Internet (NGI) initiative that works to establish an Internet that guarantees trust, privacy and inclusion while empowering people and addressing global sustainability challenges.

Digital technologies and access to a secure internet have proved to be essential during the COVID-19 crisis. At the same time, the pandemic has exacerbated the existing and growing technological, societal and economic challenges, for which NGI is an important initiative in the effort to bring human centricity to the core of our future internet.

For the past few years, NGI architects and innovators have been working to deliver technologies and services that respect European rights and values, and the NGI Forum 2021 has been the scene for showcasing the early results of the process. The event focuses on stimulating discussion and promoting the creation of synergies between innovators, researchers, developers, politicians and civil society actors. Significant areas are touched upon in a session led by Mirko Presser, Centre Deputy Director at DBD and associate professor at the Department of Business Development and Technology, Aarhus University, facilitating a debate with two of Europe’s leading internet innovators. This session allows viewers to learn about the impact of cutting-edge Internet technologies and to gain insight into future priorities across multiple areas, such as trust and data sovereignty, Internet architecture, decentralized technologies and new research methods.

About the Next Generation Internet Initiative

The Next Generation Internet (NGI) initiative, launched by the European Commission in the autumn of 2016, aims to shape the future internet as an interoperable platform ecosystem that embodies the values that Europe holds dear: openness, inclusivity, transparency, privacy, cooperation and protection of data. The NGI will drive this technological revolution and ensure the progressive adoption of advanced concepts and methodologies spanning the domains of artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, interactive technologies and more while contributing to making the future internet more human-centric.
